South African star batter David Miller hit a six to secure victory for his team against the Netherlands in their 2024 T20 World Cup match in New York on Saturday, June 8. The left-hander remained unbeaten with 59 runs off 51 balls, hitting four sixes and three fours. He nearly single-handedly secured victory for the Proteas after they were struggling at 12/4 in their chase of 104 runs.
The decisive shot came in the 19th over of South Africa‘s chase. Miller started the over with a six over fine leg, followed by a four and another six to cover and deep mid-wicket, respectively, finishing the match in style against Bas de Leede. His match-winning hit sailed into the crowd, and the over yielded 16 runs from five balls.

David Miller and Tristan Stubbs delivered crucial innings to help South Africa defeat the Netherlands by four wickets in a bowler-dominated T20 World Cup match. Chasing 104, Stubbs contributed 33 off 37 balls, hitting one six and one four.
Other than Miller and Stubbs, no South African batter reached double digits. Captain Aiden Markram was out for a three-ball duck, Quinton de Kock was run out without facing a delivery, and both Reeza Henricks and Heinrich Klassen were dismissed for single-digit scores.
Vivian Kingma and Logan van Beek each took two wickets for the Netherlands, while Bas de Leede claimed one. Batting first, the Netherlands scored 103/9 in their 20 overs. Sybrand Engelbrecht was the top scorer with 40 off 45 balls, including a six and two fours.
Logan van Beek contributed 23 off 22 balls. For the Proteas, Ottneil Baartman shone with the ball, achieving impressive figures of 4/11, while Marco Jansen and Anrich Nortje each took two wickets.
