Mohammed Shami took injections during the 2023 World Cup

The star Indian pace bowler Mohammed Shami ended the 2023 World Cup as the leading wicket-taker with 24 wickets from 7 matches and took India to the grand finale losing to eventual champions Australia.

Mohammed Shami was included in the playing during the match against New Zealand at Dharmshala. He bowled brilliantly picking 5 wickets and helped restrict the Kiwis to a chaseable total. His performance continued with another brilliant bowling effort grabbing 4 wickets against England at Lucknow.

He then backed up with another 5-wicket haul against Sri Lanka at Mumbai that helped bowl out Sri Lanka for 55. Shami rose to the occasion picking 7 wickets and helping India register 70 runs victory to make it into the finals against Australia.

Mohammed Shami got the initial breakthrough dismissing David Warner. He struggled with his rhythm as he was opening bowling partnership with Jasprit Bumrah. The Indian team lost the finals against Australia on 19th November by six wickets at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

The Indian team suffered a huge blow as Hardik Pandya was ruled out of the World Cup 2023 due to injury during the league match against Bangladesh at Pune.

“Shami has a chronic left heel issue. A lot of people don’t know that he took injections regularly during World Cup and played the entire tournament through pain,” a former Bengal teammate of Shami (unnamed) was quoted as saying by PTI.

Shami’s brilliance in World Cup 2023:

It was a remarkable performance by the pace bowler Mohammed Shami in the entire World Cup 2023. After being included in the league match against New Zealand at Dharmshala, Shami picked wickets for fun and helped Team India qualify for the grand finals against Australia.

Mohammed Shami produced a magical spell in the semi-finals against New Zealand. He got the initial breakthroughs dismissing Conway and Ravindra. Shami then dismissed Kane Williamson and Tom Latham off successive deliveries to put the pressure back on the New Zealand batters.

His bowling looked impressive and then skittled out the tail to finish with figures of 7 for 57 in 9.5 overs. For his match-winning effort, Shami was named the player of the match award.
