One of the greatest sitcoms of all time, F.R.I.E.N.D.S. is having a reunion on 27th May. It will premiere on HBO Max. The sitcom, starring Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, Courteney Cox and David Schwimmer aired from 1994-2004 but is still loved by the fans, like no other show.
The gags, references and characters are still afresh in the minds of the people. This show has a huge fanbase in India. Cricket happens to be another thing which has kept all the generations entertained.
Here we draw a parallel between F.R.I.E.N.D.S character and Indian cricketers which the fans love a lot:
1) Virat Kohli as Monica Geller
Monica Geller is highly competitive and a perfectionist. She is an adamant and overly disciplined character, who is persistent and diligent towards her work. Speaking in the world of cricket, the Indian skipper Virat Kohli is no different.
He hates losing, stands up against the opposition, is assertive, hard-working and can go all guns down to achieve his goal. Virat Kohli’s love for the game can be compared to Monica’s enthusiasm to cook. With all these similarities Virat Kohli is the apt equivalent of Monica Geller.
2) Rohit Sharma as Joey Tribbani
The goofiest guy on the show, full of life with an extremely playful attitude, Joey Tribbani was the liveliest person on the show. Coming to the world of cricket, Hitman Rohit Sharma is this character, given his social approach, jolly behaviour.
Rohit’s confidence, enthusiasm towards his on-field performances can be compared to the passion Joey gives while playing the character of Dr Drake Ramoray. The charisma Rohit has and the love he receives and the similarities in traits make him the Joey of Cricket.
3) Rishabh Pant as Pheobe Buffay
If you ask anyone who is the weirdest character on the show everyone will say Phoebe Buffay. She had a playful attitude full of spontaneity. This reminds us of wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. With a unique personality, quirky perspective about life and a vibrant attitude, Rishabh Pant stands out from the crowd and comes out as a weirdly fun person.
Just like Phoebe Pant speaks his heart out. His quirky comments behind the stumps certainly serve as an example. With his fun-loving attitude, Pant is certainly similar to Phoebe Buffay.
4) Hardik Pandya as Rachel Green
Rachel Green is the most modern, trendy and fashion frenzy person on the show. Speaking of style icons and staying up with trends in Indian cricket, there’s no one better than Hardik Pandya to nail it. Hardik Pandya has a strong sense of self ability to work with the team.
His valuable insights give a modern approach to the people. He also has a knack for adapting to situations around him. Hardik Pandya accounts to be the equivalent of fashion icon Rachel Green.
5) Ravichandran Ashwin as Ross Geller
One of the most educated and academically inclined characters on the show is Ross Geller. Defined by academic orientation, intellectual attitude and a sense of maturity, Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is the perfect equivalent of the palaeontologist.
Ashwin is one of the most educated cricketers. He has a high sense of maturity. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ross Geller both appear to be serious and impassive to the world. This makes people think that they are introverted and shy.
But once you get to know them they are probably the best people to have around. Ashwin mankading incidents remind us of Ross’s idea of Unagi which preaches self-awareness.
6) Virender Sehwag as Chandler Bing
Chandler Bing is one of the funniest and sarcastic characters on the show. His comments and one-liners make him one of the most likeable characters. In the cricket world, former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag is known for his witty nature and his ability to crack jokes.
Be it during his cricket days or today when he is a commentator, his easy-going and playful vibes equate him to being the Chandler Bing of cricket. Needless to say his bromance with fellow cricketers- be it Gambhir or Yuvraj is similar to the Chandler-Joey vibe on the show.
Additionally, Chandler and Sehwag both stand as a protector and guardian for the people that matter to them.
