Former Indian skipper Mithali Raj has hinted at making a comeback to cricket from retirement to play the inaugural Women’s Indian Premier League. The tournament could be a six-team event and is assumed to be launched next year by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. However, there has been no officially, there has not been much development.

Earlier this year in June, Mithali Raj announced her retirement from all forms of cricket. She bid adieu to her 23-year-long international career. The right-handed batter finished her career as the all-time leading run-scorer in women’s one-day internationals. The former Indian skipper recently spoke to former England star Isa Guha and New Zealand off-spinner Frankie Mackay on the first episode of ICC’s new podcast, 100% cricket.

Speaking on the podcast, Mithali Raj expressed that she is open to making a comeback to play the inaugural season of the women’s Indian Premier League. She said,

“I’m keeping that option open. I’ve not yet decided. There are a few more months to go before the women’s IPL happens. It would be lovely to be part of the first edition of the women’s IPL.”

There’s no change to my lifestyle yet: Mithali Raj on her post-retirement life

Mithali Raj also spoke about her life post-retirement on the 100% Cricket Podcast. She revealed that post announcing her retirement, she tested positive for the Covid-19 virus. After recovery, Mithali was busy with the promotions of “Shabaash Mithu” a biopic on her life. The Taapsee Pannu-starred movie was released earlier this month. Mithali said,

“After I announced my retirement, I was down with Covid, and when I recovered from that I got involved in the promotional events of the movie (her biopic Shabaash Mithu, which was released in theatres in India earlier this month).”

“So far it is as hectic as it has been (as a player), there’s no change to my lifestyle yet. Maybe when all these things die down, I’d probably feel the difference of what it is post-retirement,” she added.
