Australian opener Travis Head believes that the entirety of India would relish another encounter between the two teams in the final of another ICC tournament. Australia has emerged victorious over India in two recent ICC events, including the World Test Championship (WTC) and the ODI World Cup last year.
If they progress through the group stage, Super Eights, and the semi-final, there’s a chance that these two prestigious teams could meet in the 2024 T20 World Cup final. The Indian team has a strong track record against Australia in the tournament, but they have only encountered them once in a knockout match.
Head has proven to be a formidable opponent for Team India in recent times. His centuries have played a crucial role in extending the Indian team’s drought for ICC trophies. He believes that India is eager to avenge their painful defeats to the Australian team by clinching the title at the 2024 T20 World Cup.
“It would be nice to be in the final. I think everyone in India would love that, especially considering what’s happened in the last two finals. So, I’m sure India wants some revenge at some point.”
“There would be good theater around it if that were the case. Let’s hope that we’re in it, and let’s hope you’re in it, and we’ll see what happens,” Travis Head said in an interview with Times of India.
India and Australia are set to begin their T20 World Cup campaigns shortly, facing off against Ireland and Oman, respectively.
“Playing an attacking brand of cricket is crucial for them” –Travis Head comments briefly on Team India’s prospects at the 2024 T20 World Cup
The Indian team is undeniably among the top contenders for the tournament title, but they will need to navigate various internal and external challenges to emerge victorious.
Following an exhilarating IPL season, international teams are now more acquainted with their opponents. Having closely observed the Indian players during the tournament, Head evaluated the Men in Blue’s chances and noted that they, along with a few other teams, have a genuine opportunity to claim the trophy.
“I don’t think Rohit has too much to worry about. He’s been an exceptional leader for a period of time and is an exceptional player as well. So, I don’t think there’s any issue from that side of things.”
”India is in good hands. I think you could probably name four or five teams that are going to be in the mix. Playing an attacking brand of cricket is crucial for them,” Head added.
Travis Head missed Australia’s warm-up matches due to his participation in the 2024 IPL playoffs. However, he is expected to be immediately placed at the top of the batting order alongside David Warner.
