The opener from Pakistan Imam-ul-Haq has urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to take a leaf out of Indian management and back the players to get the desired results. Pakistan have struggled in recent times who have struggled to compete against the major forces in world cricket.

Incidentally, Indian is known to back its players and give an extended run to make a mark international cricket. Notably, Rohit Sharma made his T20 debut during the inaugural World Cup in South Africa in 2007. But Rohit failed to realise his potential until MS Dhoni promoted him to the top-order in 2013. If not Dhoni, then the world cricket might have missed the legacy of the swashbuckling opener.

Citing Rohit Sharma’s example, Imam-ul-Haq urged PCB to support their players in bad patch to hit the high. During a live chat on Instagram, the southpaw also highlighted the communication gap between players and the governing body resulting in poor performance of the side.

“Our team has a fear of failure, although that is my personal assessment, which is why players don’t perform consistently. They are worried about getting dropped from the side after two or three poor performances,” Imam said.

“Communication gap between the board and players also results in inconsistency. This is not the case with other teams around the world. If you look at the example of Rohit Sharma, who did not do well initially in his career but India trusted him and he came good later,” he added.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma turned his career upside down when he started opening the innings for India. He had spectacular time last year and also became the first cricketer to struck five centuries in one World Cup edition. He was last in action during the New Zealand series where he copped a blow and missed the ODIs and Tests.
