“Important For Coach & Captain To Have A Say In Team Selection” : Ravi Shastri

Ravi Shastri-Rahul Dravid

Former Indian coach Ravi Shastri has been giving out some really interesting statements ever since his tenure as head coach came to an end. He gave up on his role after India made an early exit from the T20 World Cup. Shastri was not interested in extending his career post the debacle.

Talking to Star Sports on his glorious career as coach of the Indian cricket team, he has been very vocal about his rapport and relationship with Indian skipper Virat Kohli. One of his important points was to speak about team selection.

Ravi Shastri said that time has come in Indian cricket scenes for the coach and the captain to have a say in team selection. He is hopeful that Rahul Dravid along with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will encourage the same soon.

“I think it is extremely important for the coach and the captain to have a say in the team selection, officially going forward. It is very important especially if the coach is experienced enough. I was, Rahul (Dravid is), and the captain should also have a say,” Ravi Shastri said on a Star Sports show.

In the same interview, Shastri had also compared the captaincy styles of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. While Kohli will continue as the Test captain, Rohit has taken the mantle of white-ball captaincy from him. The Indian cricket fraternity believes that it can be for the good interest of the team’s future.

Team Did Not Worry On The Outside: Ravi Shastri

“When you look at the two and compare their captaincy, reminds me of Sunny and Kapil. Kapil the more Virat-like, spontaneous, instinctive, goes with the gut feeling; Rohit, more like Gavaskar– calculated, extremely efficient, very calm and composed. I don’t think the team really worried too much about what was on the outside. They were professionals,” Ravi Shastri further added.
