In-Form Indian Pacer Set To Earn Maiden ODI Call-Up After Impressive IPL 2026 Season: Reports

Prince Yadav of Lucknow Super Giants is reportedly being considered by the Indian selectors for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan at home. The selection committee is expected to meet on Tuesday, May 19, to finalise the squads for India’s first international assignment after their successful ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign.

With Jasprit Bumrah likely to feature in either the one-off Test or the ODI series, and Harshit Rana sidelined due to a long-term knee injury, the selectors could look at fresh pace options as India build towards the 2027 ODI World Cup. Prince Yadav has emerged as a strong contender because of his excellent form and impressive performances this season.

The right-arm fast bowler has enjoyed a brilliant IPL 2026 campaign and currently sits fourth among the leading wicket-takers with 16 wickets at an average of 24.00 and an economy rate of 8.53. Before the IPL, Prince also impressed in the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy while representing Delhi, claiming 18 wickets in eight matches to finish among the tournament’s top wicket-takers.

“His effort in the ongoing IPL 2026, 16 wickets from 12 games, including the dismissal of Virat Kohli with a lovely seaming delivery, has underlined the fact that there couldn’t be a better series to try out Prince since Harshit Rana is unlikely to get fit anytime soon,” a report from PTI mentions.

India national cricket team have endured two ODI series defeats under the captaincy of Shubman Gill, including a 1-2 loss against New Zealand national cricket team earlier this year.

India vs Afghanistan ODI Series To Begin From June 14

Afghanistan national cricket team’s tour of India will begin with a one-off Test match in Mullanpur starting from June 6. The focus will then shift to white-ball cricket, with the two teams set to play a three-match ODI series from June 14 onwards.

Dharamshala, Lucknow and Chennai have been selected as the venues for the ODI matches, which will mark the beginning of an important phase in India national cricket team’s preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
