In White-Ball Cricket, MS Dhoni Is My Preferred Batting Partner: Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir expressed that MS Dhoni is his preferred batting partner in white-ball cricket. They notably collaborated in the crucial partnership during the 2011 World Cup final, contributing to India’s victory.

Their longstanding history of playing together in various matches is memorable for Gambhir. Throughout most of his international career, Gambhir primarily opened with Virender Sehwag, while Dhoni usually batted in the middle order. However, whenever Gambhir and Dhoni batted together, their communication was effective, showcasing excellent coordination in running between the wickets.

“My favourite batting partner was MS Dhoni. People think that it was Virender Sehwag but I actually love playing more with Dhoni, especially in white-ball cricket. We shared big partnerships,” Gambhir stated in an interview with Times Now.

India lacked the required courage, and that’s the reason we lost in the finals: Gautam Gambhir

Gambhir criticized India’s approach in the 2023 ODI World Cup finals, suggesting that they should have played more aggressively. He mentioned that being too defensive in the mid-phase resulted in a score of 240, which proved insufficient as Australia chased it down easily.

Gambhir criticized India’s lack of bravery in adopting an aggressive approach in the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia, leading to a six-wicket loss. He emphasized a preference for an all-out attacking style, even if it meant scoring fewer runs than the defensive strategy that yielded 240 runs, considering it insufficient in modern cricket

“I would have really liked if India would have gone really aggressive with top 6-7 batters, irrespective of them getting bundled out for 150 runs. I would have been fine. However, if you think you can defend 240 runs or fight for it.. In World Cup final you don’t fight. Either we go 150 all out or we go 300, that is the approach I would have liked,” Gambhir said.

“Probably Rohit should have sent that message ahead of the game that even if he gets out early, others should continue in an aggressive manner. Virat has a role, which is to anchor from one end but rest others go hard,” Gautam Gambhir concluded.
