IND v SL 2022: Whom Did Rohit Sharma Give The Trophy After T20I Series Win?

The Indian team registered a whitewash in the T20I series against Sri Lanka on Sunday, at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. The Rohit Sharma-led team won the third T20I match by 6 wickets, chasing 147 runs.

After the win, Rohit Sharma, who won his 17th T20I match at home as the Indian skipper, collected the Paytm Trophy. Soon, he handed the Trophy to Jaydev Shah, BCCI’s representative for the home series. Jaydev is the son of former BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah and has captained Saurashtra in the Indian domestic circuit. He led the team to the 2007-08 Vijay Hazare Trophy win, which was Saurashtra’s first-ever national title.

The former Saurashtra captain took retirement from the sport in 2018, scoring 97 runs against Karnataka in his farewell game. Jaydev has scored 5354 runs at an average of 29.40 in first-class cricket, with ten centuries to his name. He was recently appointed by the BCCI as its representative for the home series against Sri Lanka.

Shreyas Iyer continued his spectacular form in the third and final T20I against Sri Lanka on Sunday. The right-hander walked out to bat early after India lost Rohit Sharma for 6 runs on the board. He took on the Sri Lankan bowling attack, guiding India to a clean sweep against Sri Lanka. Shreyas remained unbeaten on 73 runs off 45 deliveries, including nine boundaries and a six. He, earned the Player of the Series award for his 204 runs, in three matches.

Reflecting on his performance, Shreyas said, “All three knocks were special, but yesterday’s – coming in at a crucial moment, I’d pick that. Only require one ball to get into form as long as you’re keeping your eyes on the ball and playing it on its merit. The wicket was little two paced today compared to yesterday. Was playing on the merit. Outfield is so fast, just had to hit gaps. Been a rollercoster journey after my injury. Real test of you is during rehab sessions.”

After clean sweep in the T20I series, India will take on Sri Lanka in a two-match test series starting from March 4 in Mohali.
