Team India registered a dominating 99 runs victory via the DLS method in the 2nd One-day international against Australia played at Holkar Stadium, Indore on 24th September. It was a dominating performance by the Men in Blue as they posted 399 for 5 in 50 overs.
Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill shared a 200-run partnership for the 2nd wicket before KL Rahul’s other well-made half-century along with Suryakumar Yadav’s brilliance helped India post a mammoth total. Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin took 3 wickets each while Prasidh Krishna grabbed two important wickets to derail the Australian innings. India clinched the ODI series with one game to spare at Rajkot on 27 September.
Here we look at the 3 areas that India need to work on Ahead Of the 3rd ODI
- Shardul Thakur’s bowling
Shardul Thakur was on the expensive side again like in the first One-day international. It was a disappointing bowling effort by Thakur gave away 35 runs from 4 overs and gave away boundaries.
The first match saw Shardul Thakur giving away 78 runs in his 10 overs without picking any wickets. With Rohit Sharma coming into the captaincy role for the 3rd ODI, it will be interesting to see if Rohit would give him a chance to play XI against Australia at Rajkot.
- Fielding and Catch Drops
The Indian fielding and catch drops have been a major concern for Team India. Ruturaj Gaikwad dropped a tough chance while Shardul Thakur conceded lots of runs while misfielding.
Indian team looked sloppy in the first One-day international with Shreyas Iyer dropping a simple chance while there was run out chance by KL Rahul. The Men in Blue must work on ground fielding and catch efficiency ahead of the 3rd ODI to be played at Rajkot.
- Form of Key Players
The Indian team will see the return of key players including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, and Hardik Pandya into the playing XI. They need to make sure that these players practice well after a brilliant Asia Cup 2023.
Rohit, Virat Kohli, Kuldeep Yadav, and Hardik Pandya were rested for the first two matches while Mohammed Shami was there in the team but did not feature in the playing XI. Indian team management must make sure that can get into a rhythm before they can act before the World Cup warm-up matches.
