IND vs AUS: Australia Players Wear Black Armbands As Pat Cummins’ Mother Passes Away

In bad news, Pat Cummins’s mother Maria passed away after a prolonged illness on Thursday. The Australian players wore black arm bands in memory of Cummins’s mother during the 2nd Day of the 4th Test match.

Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green started the 2nd day at 255 for 4 on the best batting pitch of the series so far at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on 10 March 2023.  Cricket Australia took to social media to give condolences to Cummins and his family.

“We are deeply saddened at the passing of Maria Cummins overnight. On behalf of Australian Cricket, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Pat, the Cummins family, and their friends. The Australian Men’s team will today wear black armbands as a mark of respect,” Cricket Australia said in a statement.

Pat Cummins went home after the finish of the 2nd Test match played at Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi. He did not take part in the 3rd and 4th Tests due to the same problem. The Australian Cricket Team lost the first two Test matches by a massive margin. During the first match, the Aussies lost by innings and 132 runs and then were thrashed by 6 wickets in 2nd match of the series.

“On behalf of Indian Cricket, we express our sadness at the passing away of Pat Cummins’s mother. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family in this difficult period,” the BCCI said.

Australia made a strong comeback

The Australian team made a strong comeback in the 3rd Test match at Indore. It was an impressive performance by the stand-in captain Steve Smith bringing in changes. After being asked to field first, Australian spinners wreaked havoc to bowl out India for 109 runs in the first innings. Matt Kuhemann picked his maiden 5 wicket haul in Test matches.

Usman Khawaja played a key role for Australia with complied 60 and helped Australia to take 88 runs in the first innings. Nathan Lyon bowled a dream spell with 8 wickets in 2nd innings bowling out India for 163 runs. Chasing down 76, Travis Head and Labuschagne completed their job winning the match by 9 wickets.
