The Australian Cricket Team has been dealt another major blow as their star bowler Jhye Richardson has been ruled out of the ODI series against India starting on 17 March. He is also doubtful about the Indian Premier League slated to take place on 31 March 2023.
Jhye Richardson was included in the 17-member ODI squad to face India but due to a hamstring injury, the pace bowler has been ruled out of the series. It will be a major blow for Australia as they would be looking to gain good practice ahead of the 2023 World Cup to be played in India.
Richardson did not play any cricket since his hamstring injury on January 4. He did not feature in Perth Scorchers’ victorious run and did not feature in the Marsh Cup or Sheffield tournament. He returned to competitive cricket on Saturday playing for Fremantle against Waneroo in 50 over the game, where he was supposed to make his domestic return before the Marsh Cup final before going to India.
He only bowled 4 overs in the match and picked 3 wickets for 5 runs before leaving the field and heading for a scan. Nathan Ellis has been named as a replacement for Jhye Richardson. Australia will take on India in 3 match ODI series starting on 17 March in Mumbai. They would be looking for decent preparations ahead of the World Cup 2023.
The rest of the squad remains the same as Pat Cummins and Co would be looking to give a tough fight to the Indian side.
Here we look at the updated Australian ODI squad:
Pat Cummins (c), Sean Abbott, Ashton Agar, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Marnus Labuschagne, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Nathan Ellis, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, David Warner, Adam Zampa.
Jhye Richardson doubtful for IPL 2023
Mumbai Indians would be in big trouble as Jhye Richardson could be ruled out of IPL 2023. With Bumrah ruled out of the tournament, it will be a major blow for the MI squad if Jhye will not feature for the five-time champion.
Jhye Richardson was bought by the MI squad for a base price of 1.50 Crore at the auction. He played only 3 matches for the Punjab Kings in the 2021 edition of IPL. During his stint with PBKS, he grabbed 3 wickets from 3 encounters at an economy of 10.63 runs per over.
