The Indian Cricket Team registered a comprehensive 5 wickets win over Australia at PCA Stadium, Mohali on 22nd September 2023. Stand-in captain KL Rahul won the toss and decided to field first. It was an impressive bowling effort as they bowled out Australia for 276 in 50 overs.
Indian openers Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad laid a strong foundation before a flurry of wickets in middle overs put the hosts under some pressure. Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul showed calm putting on a valuable partnership that helped the Indian team comfortable victory.

- Mohammed Shami
Mohammed Shami was included in the playing XI for today’s match. He got the wicket in the very first over dismissing Mitchell Marsh with an easy catch by Shubman Gill. Coming for the second spell, Shami got rid of Steve Smith taking the inside edge onto the stumps.
When the partnership between Marcus Stoinis and Inglis went strong, Shami dismissed Stoinis shattering stumps. He then got wickets of Matthew Short and Sean Abbott in his final over to finish with his best ODI figures of 5 for 51 in 10 overs. For his match-winning effort, Shami was named the player of the match award.

Shubman Gill continued from where he left off during the Asia Cup 2023. Chasing down 277 runs to win, Gill showed intent with some lovely strokes timing the ball brilliantly keeping the scoreboard ticking, and making life tough for Australian bowlers.
Gill made the batting look easy keeping momentum going for India. He raced away to his fifty off just 37 deliveries with some attacking shots. His knock contained some amazing strokes and kept the scoreboard ticking.
The opener was eventually dismissed for 74 off 63 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes. He and Ruturaj Gaikwad put on 142 runs for the opening wicket.
- KL Rahul
The stand-in captain KL Rahul came to the crease with the scoreboard reading 148 for 2. He looked steady with his shots as Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan fell in quick succession. Rahul showed his maturity by taking singles and hitting boundaries along with Suryakumar Yadav.
He kept the scoreboard ticking with singles and made the batting look easy. KL Rahul completed his fifty off 62 deliveries and hit the winning runs with a six. His unbeaten knock of 58 and partnership with Suryakumar Yadav for the 5th wicket that India won the match comfortably.
During his knock of 58, KL Rahul hit 4 boundaries and 1 six. He has gained confidence ahead of World Cup 2023 playing two important knocks.
