Team India pacer Mohammed Shami was at his best in the first ODI against Australia on Friday, September 22, 2023, at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. He took a fifer in the match, as Australia was bowled out for 276 runs. The fast bowler also looked in a great mood during the mid-innings interview and left everyone in splits with his responses.

Mohammad Shami dismissed Mitchell Starc in the first of the match. He also took crucial wickets of Steve Smith, and Marcus Stoinis, and then helped India to wrap up the innings. He finished with career-best bowling figures of 5/51 in 10 overs. After his remarkable performance, Mohammad Shami spoke to Harsha Bhogle and Sanjay Manjrekar during the mid-innings break.

Harsha Bhogle asked Shami whether the heat was the factor behind him taking a break after three overs in his first spell. The pacer’s response was hilarious, he said,

“Haan, sayad, aaplog to AC me they, hamlog bahar they, garmi to tha hi (Yes, maybe, you guys were in the AC, we were outside, it was hot [chuckles]).”

We enjoy each other’s success: Mohammad Shami on his camaraderie with Mohammed Siraj

Veteran pacer Mohammad Shami was excluded from India’s XI for the Asia Cup final. He is making a comeback to the team in the first ODI against Australia after Mohammed Siraj was rested for the match. When asked about making the most of the opportunity he got in Siraj’s absence, Mohammad Shami replied,

“Bahot Khushi ke baat hai aaplog ke liye to, aapko bolne milta hay (It’s a good thing because it gives you guys an opportunity to talk about it).”

Talking about his camaraderie with Mohammed Siraj, Shami said, “We enjoy each other’s success. I think this is the result of playing together for the last seven to eight years.”

Mohammad Shami and Mohammed Siraj will play a pivotal role for India in the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup. Siraj is in great form and is the second leading wicket-taker for India in ODIs this year. He has taken 29 wickets in 13 matches, at an average of 12.86, while Shami has picked 18 wickets in 11 games.
