IND vs AUS: [WATCH] Mohammed Shami Dismisses Mitchell Marsh With A Brilliant Delivery In The 1st ODI

In the first over of the ongoing 1st ODI between India and Australia in Mohali, Mohammed Shami removed Australia’s Mitchell Marsh in his usual style, providing the hosts with an excellent start to the three-match series.

Shami consistently delivered the ball to the right-handed batsman, focusing on the off-stump, although he missed one ball and conceded a boundary on the second delivery.

The fourth delivery was expertly placed on a full length just off the off-stump, and it straightened slightly, causing Marsh to edge it to Shubman Gill at the first slip.

Marsh’s dismissal was a significant setback for Australia, especially considering his recent form in the ODIs against South Africa where he played a pivotal role, even top-scoring with 71 (56) in the final match in Johannesburg, albeit in a losing effort.

Mohammed Shami’s ability to take Marsh’s wicket further strengthens his claim for a spot in the World Cup squad.

Although Shami is part of the squad, he often appears as a backup seam bowler, given the presence of Jasprit Bumrah and the excellent form of Mohammed Siraj as certainties in the playing XI.

However, taking wickets in this match could help him maintain a higher position in the selection hierarchy than Prasidh Krishna.

David Warner and Steve Smith recover after an initial setback caused by Mohammed Shami

KL Rahul, India’s stand-in captain, chose to field after winning the toss, continuing the trend of successful chases in Mohali. Shami and Bumrah have bowled accurately since the early wicket, causing difficulties for David Warner and Steve Smith.

This has served as a valuable examination for a team aiming to accelerate the run rate during the powerplay. Additionally, Warner received a fortunate break when Shreyas Iyer dropped a catch at mid-off on the final delivery of the ninth over.
