The Indian team staged a superb comeback to reduce Australia’s lead on the 2nd day of the 3rd Test match played at Holkar Stadium, Indore on 2 March 2023.
Starting on the overnight score of 156 for 4, Cameron Green and Peter Handscomb looked solid with their defensive technique against Ravindra Jadeja keeping the good deliveries. Rohit Sharma started the day with Mohammed Shami and bowled disciplined lines.
Handscomb and Green looked impressive with their defensive technique keeping the scoreboard ticking. After the first drinks break, Ravichandran Ashwin struck to get rid of Peter Handscomb with a lovely catch by Shreyas Iyer at short leg. Handscomb and Green added 40 runs for the 5th wicket.
Umesh Yadav was introduced into the attack and dismissed Cameron Green with another lovely delivery. Umesh then struck with a peach rattling the stumps of Mitchell Starc to bring back India into the game.
R Ashwin dismissed Alex Carey with a straight delivery hitting in front of the stumps. Umesh Yadav produced a magical delivery as reverse swing played its part to get rid of Todd Murphy. The incident took place in the 76th over as Umesh Yadav came around the wicket and rattled the stumps. It was a remarkable piece of bowling that distributed the timber. R Ashwin then dismissed Nathan Lyon to skittle out Australia for 197.

The Indian bowlers made a strong comeback after a quiet first hour. They picked up 6 wickets giving away just 11 runs to restrict Australia’s lead to 88.
Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill survived a few anxious moments before the lunch break. Both Indian openers made 13 runs for the loss of no wickets still trailing by 75 runs.

Umesh Yadav was at his best during the 1st session of the 2nd Day against Australia. He was bought into the squad replacing Mohammed Shami for this Test match.
He was given one over during the 1st day’s play. Yadav was bought late into the attack and produced one of the best fast-bowling spells not allowing the Australian batters to score big runs. The speedster took 100 Test wickets on Indian soil and bought back India into the game after a quiet first hour.
Yadav ended with figures of 3 for 12 in 5 overs with 2 peach of deliveries and making life tough for the Australian batters.
