The talented Indian opener Shubman Gill will face Australia in the first One-day international match to be played at his home ground PCA Stadium, Mohali on 22nd September 2023. In the latest rankings announced Gill jumped to number 2nd place and is 43 points away from Babar Azam to become the number 1 ranked ODI batter in the world.

Shubman Gill has been in sensational form of late being the leading run-getter during the recently concluded Asia Cup 2023. He made 302 runs from 6 matches with the best score of 121 against Bangladesh in the final league match of the Super 4 stage.

He looked in cracking form with a quickfire 58 runs during the Super 4 stage match against Pakistan. His performance stood out during the Asia Cup with some lovely shots and made life tough for the bowlers. Shubman Gill is currently at 814 points while Pakistan captain Babar Azam is at 857. Gill looks to continue his superb in the 3-match ODI series to be played on 22nd September 24th and 27th September on good batting pitches at Mohali, Indore, and Rajkot.

Shubman Gill has a golden chance to become the number 1 ranked ODI batter replacing Pakistan captain Babar Azam. He must score 200 plus runs securing the top spot in batters rankings. The young opener will be eager to perform decently while opening the batting and lay a strong foundation with Ishan Kishan against top-quality Australian bowling.

Gill will be playing first in international cricket at his home ground. He knows this pitch well and would look to create an impact right from the start against the Australian pacers. This will be an ideal preparation ground for both teams for World Cup 2023 which would begin on 5th October.

The Indian team will miss the service of Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, Kohli, and Kuldeep Yadav for the first two ODIs before they return for the 3rd ODI to be played at Rajkot on 27th September. He has been in brilliant form and looks to showcase his abilities.
