The safety of spectators at Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium, the site of India’s second Test match against Bangladesh, has drawn concerns. Concerns regarding the structural integrity of the C block stands have apparently been raised by the Public Works Department’s designation of the buildings as “unfit” and “dangerous.”

The 10,000-seat capacity balcony on the C block has reportedly been declared structurally unstable. Authorities intend to restrict ticket sales for this sector to less than half of its capacity, fearing that the building may collapse under the weight of the fans. The purpose of this safety precaution is to protect test match attendees.

Fans may be disappointed by the decision, but safety must come first. Authorities and officials at the stadium will keep a careful eye on the situation to avoid any unexpected developments.

While attention will still be on the action on the field as India looks to win the series against Bangladesh, spectator safety will come first. Authorities will work to ensure a safe environment for all participants when the Test starts on Friday.

UPCA dismisses charges of risky stands at Green Park Stadium:

The venue director of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA), Sanjay Kapoor, has dismissed the reports of safety issues at the Green Park in Kanpur in advance of the second Test between Bangladesh and India, which starts on Friday, September 27.

“These are all baseless rumours that there is a safety concern for the fans. Out of a capacity for 10,000 fans on the balcony, we have been asked to reduce seats to 7,200, and we are not selling tickets for the remaining 2,800 seats,” Kapoor was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

“Even then, we have managed to increase the number of seats for the fans by almost 6,000 from the last match and now we have around 26,000 seats. UPCA has taken all possible measures to ensure the safety of the fans; we have also made provisions for 3,000 school kids to watch the match every day,” said Kapoor.

“Floodlights are working properly, and everything has been checked properly and we are prepared even for the bad weather conditions here,” Kapoor added.

The last Test at the venue was between India and New Zealand in November 2021, which ended in a tie.
