From his side as a player, Virat Kohli was not up to par during the first Test match held against Bangladesh. He only managed to make six and 17 runs in his two innings before leaving the field for good. In his second inning though he was declared LBW but decided not to go for the review process.
However, when checked closely it was found out that there was slight inside edge before hitting on pads which looked very much plumb; hence wrong call from this great cricketer of our age.
“They should’ve played” –Suresh Raina comments on the absence of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from the Duleep Trophy
Suresh Raina, the former Indian cricketer, has recently stated that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, ought to have played the Duleep Trophy before returning to Test cricket. Earlier this year, for instance, Kohli had missed an entire series against England that comprised five Tests.
Raina stated (via India Today):
“Yes, they should’ve played, you see we haven’t played red-ball cricket ever since the IPL ended. Since we’re heading towards a crucial Test series, one must play 4-day cricket and get used to how the wicket will behave on Day 4.”
“I think they’re matured enough when they will regroup for 4-5 days and start practicing. Sometimes, family time is also importan,.” the cricketer-turned-commentator added.
In addition, poor scores of six and five were registered by Rohit. However, despite their failures, the hosts put a mighty 515-run target on Bangladesh in this initial two-match Test series. Things have been going well for some other players such as Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill and Ravichandran Ashwin, who scored centuries during the ongoing contest.
