The Indian Cricket Team will face England in the 3rd Test match at Rajkot to be played from 15th February 2024 with the series level at 1-1. Former Indian player Aakash Chopra said that Ishan Kishan will not be considered for the national team until he starts to resume playing. Kishan has not played any international cricket since November 2023.

“It’s been a long time since Ishan Kishan requested for the break. He has not played any competitive cricket. He is on an extended break. He has not played first-class cricket too. I hope that he is good, he is fine and in a happy space because he had requested a break due to mental fatigue,” Aakash Chopra said, in his YouTube show.

Ishan Kishan has not played any competitive cricket since the 5-match T20I series against Australia at home in November- December 2023. He was included in the squad but was not given a chance as Jitesh Sharma played in the T20I format while Sanju Samson featured in the One-day international format. Kishan was released from the Test squad due to personal reasons. He wanted a break citing mental fatigue.

“There is a difference between Virat Kohli and Ishan Kishan” – Aakash Chopra

The Indian coach Rahul Dravid was asked about Ishan’s availability, he said that Kishan needs to play competitive cricket to be included in the squad for upcoming test matches against England. Virat Kohli has not been included in the first two test matches played at Hyderabad and Vizag due to personal reasons. Kohli played the two Test matches on South African soil and looked impressive in the entire series.

It will be interesting to see if Kohli is selected for the 3rd Test match to be played from 15th February onwards at Rajkot. The squad for the last three test matches to be played at Rajkot, Ranchi, and Dharmshala will be announced this week. It promises to be an exciting series with India making a strong comeback with 106 run victory in the 2nd test match played at Vizag.

“And please don’t ask why Virat Kohli is not playing competitive cricket before returning. There is a difference between Virat Kohli and Ishan Kishan. Let’s not go down that route,” Aakash Chopra added.
