Shubman Gill scores century on 3rd day against England

Shubman Gill came up with a well-deserved century on the 3rd day of the 2nd Test match against England played at Vizag on 4th February 2024. Gill came to the crease in the first over itself as James Anderson produced a beauty to dismiss Rohit Sharma. It was an edgy start for Gill as he was given out by the umpire but on review, it was overturned to not out as it hit the inside edge. He then survived another close given not out, this time the decision remained as an umpire call.

Gill showed intent putting pressure on the inexperienced England spin bowling including Shoaib Bashir, and Tom Hartley keeping the scoreboard ticking. Gill and Shreyas Iyer maintained the momentum going for India. A stunning catch by Ben Stokes ended the innings for Shreyas Iyer. Gill and Iyer added 81 runs for 3rd wicket.

Gill looked confident with fifty off 60 deliveries. After the lunch break, Gill looked in decent touch keeping scoreboard ticking along with Axar Patel. Both batters did not allow the England bowlers to settle hitting boundaries comfortably. Gill completed his 3rd century in Test cricket off 132 deliveries. It was a great innings that kept the Indian innings together.

He was eventually dismissed for 104 trying to reverse a sweep caught by Ben Foakes. Gill and Axar Patel added 89 runs for the 5th wicket. Gill finally scored his first century in Test cricket after a brilliant knock against Australia in the 4th Test match at Ahmedabad last year. During his innings, Gill looked out of sorts initially before taking charge with some lovely attacking shots against the spinners and played well against James Anderson.

Gill smashed 11 boundaries and 2 sixes during his innings of 104. His first Test century came against Bangladesh in Bangladesh, his second Test century against Australia, and now his best knock under pressure.
