Veteran India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin heaped praise on Kuldeep Yadav for his performance in the fourth Test against England on Sunday, February 25 at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi. He expressed that the wrist-spinner is “double the bowler” now.

Kuldeep Yadav did not get a wicket in the first innings of the test match. However, he made a brilliant comeback in the second innings, rattling the England batters. Kuldeep took four wickets conceding runs at an economy rate of 1.5. England was bowled out for a paltry 145 runs in the innings. Ravichandran Ashwin who took a five-wicket haul in the innings, was very impressed with Kuldeep’s performance. He said,

“I loved the way Kuldeep bowled today, he was brilliant, the way he changed the trajectory, change of pace, the dip he got – I think he’s double the bowler now. I took away a 5-wicket haul from him.”

Kuldeep Yadav showed a lot of technique and guile: Ravichandran Ashwin

Kuldeep Yadav not only shined with the ball but also put on a crucial stand with Dhruv Jurel for India in the first innings. He played 131 deliveries, and scored 28 runs, helping India to get closer to the first-innings lead. Talking about Kuldeep Yadav’s batting, Ravichandran Ashwin said,

“It was hard on him yesterday, we sent him to bat early, but he showed a lot of technique and guile, we batted almost the entire first session. We would have taken a deficit of 70-80 runs when we went back to the hotel yesterday, we would have taken it.”

India has to chase down 191 runs to seal the Test series. They are 40 for no loss at the end of the third day’s play in Ranchi. India is leading the five-match series 2-1, winning the Visakhapatnam and Rajkot matches. England had won the first test by 28 runs at Hyderabad.
