Shubman Gill scores century on 3rd day against England

Team India batter Shubman Gill will not be taking the field on the fourth day of the second Test against England at the  Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared an update on the opener through ‘X’ (formerly Twitter).

Shubman Gill roared back to form in the match playing a vital knock for India in the second innings. He slammed 104 runs at a strike rate of 70.75, with eleven boundaries and two sixes. His innings helped India set a target of 399 runs for England. He played with a hurt right index finger, an injury, he suffered on the second day of the test match. The youngster will not be taking the field due to it on the fourth day.

The BCCI wrote, “Shubman Gill hurt his right index finger while fielding on Day 2. He won’t be taking the field today.”

Shubman Gill has serious talent: Alastair Cook

Former cricketer Alastair Cook was impressed with Shubman Gill’s century knock against England in the second Test. He expressed that the Indian batter has serious talent and has learnt to deal with the pressure. Speaking to TNT Sports, Alastair Cook said,

“Gill played beautifully. He has serious talent… and there was probably quite a lot of pressure on his shoulders. At the World Cup [in India], all the billboards were of Kohli, but he’s the next one they want to step into his shoes.”

“That’s a big thing to have the pressure of a country the size of India on your shoulders. As a young talent, that’s something that the likes of Tendulkar and Kohli have dealt with… and he now has to learn to deal with it,” he further added.
