Jay Shah will unveil the new name of the Rajkot Stadium ahead of the 3rd Test match between India and England to be played from 15th February onwards. England made a tremendous comeback in the first test match after conceding a 190-run lead in the first innings to win by 28 runs at Hyderabad. India showed fight and courage to win the 2nd test match by 106 runs at Vizag to level the series 1-1.

The series now shifts to the Saurashtra Cricket Stadium, Rajkot which would begin from 15th February onwards. Before the action begins, Rajkot Stadium is set to get a new name. It will be named after first-class former cricketer Niranjan Shah. The BCCI secretary Jay Shah would unveil the new name on 14th February ahead of the third test match.

“Jay Shah will unveil the new name and we have also sent out invites to senior BCCI officials for the ceremony. In a couple of days, we will have confirmations from all the dignitaries and office bearers we have invited,” says SCA secretary Himanshu Shah, as per News18.

The third test promises to be an exciting one as the series is equal at 1-1. Both teams would look to play aggressive cricket and provide entertainment which has been a great series so far between the top two teams in the world. Saurashtra Cricket Association Secretary Himanshu would be hoping that players from both sides would attend the event as they are likely to arrive at this stadium on 14th February 2024.

Nirajan Shah has played only 12 first-class games for Saurashtra between 1965-66 and 1975-76 seasons. He also was secretary of SCA for close to 40 years. He also was the BCCI secretary at some point in time. He also helped in getting Saurashtra to gain a test venue. It has hosted two Test matches so far with the first one being played between India and England in 2016. The match ended in a high-scoring draw.

It is one of the most brilliant batting pitches in the country as there is less help for the bowlers. The third test match would be an exciting encounter as England played attacking cricket in the first two test matches.
