IND vs ENG: Record-Breaking Day For Rohit Sharma As He Slams A Century In Rajkot Test

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma slammed a record-breaking century in the third Test against England in the ongoing five-match series on Thursday, February 15 at the Niranjan Shah Cricket Stadium in Rajkot. His knock helped India end the first day of the test well.

Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first. India lost Yashasvi Jaiswal early in the innings and were soon reduced to 33 for the loss of three wickets. The skipper had the task of building a partnership to bail his team out of trouble. He got together with Ravindra Jadeja and put on a 204-run stand for the fourth wicket.

In the fifty-third over, Rohit Sharma brought up his century with a cut towards the deep point fielder. He then took on the bowlers quickly racing into 130s. He was dismissed by Mark Wood for 131 runs, slamming fourteen boundaries and three sixes. India finished the first day on 326 runs at the loss of five wickets. Ravindra Jadeja is unbeaten on 110 runs, while Sarfaraz Khan slammed a brisk fifty. The first day witnessed several records being broken by the Indian skipper.

Records broken by Rohit Sharma in the Rajkot Test

– Rohit Sharma is now the fourth on the list of most runs scored by an Indian across formats in International cricket. He went past Sourav Ganguly on the list. Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Rahul Dravid are the top three batters.

– The Indian skipper is also second on the list of Most sixes by an Indian in test cricket. He has slammed 80 sixes, going past Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s tally of 78. Virender Sehwag is at the top of the list with 90 sixes in Test cricket.

– Rohit Sharma now has the most hundreds for India in the World Test Championship. He has slammed eight centuries in the championship. Overall, he is joint third on the list with Kane Williamson and Steve Smith, behind the likes of Joe Root (12), and Marnus Labuschange (9).

–  He also broke Vijay Hazare’s record, set way back in 1951. Rohit is now the oldest India captain to score an international hundred.
