India asserted dominance on the opening day of the 2nd Test, with Yashasvi Jaiswal finishing unbeaten. Winning the toss, Rohit Sharma opted to bat, and though he fell early, Jaiswal and partners contributed steadily. Notably, Jaiswal secured his second century, the first against England, reaching an impressive 179 runs with 17 fours and 5 sixes.
Debutant Rajat Patidar added a valuable 70-run partnership but suffered an unfortunate dismissal. Jaiswal, in sublime form, eyes a potential double century on Day 2, aiming to propel the team beyond 400-450 runs. Shoaib Bashir, marking a dream debut as an off-spinner, claimed the wicket of Rohit Sharma and added another scalp.
Rehan Ahmed also secured two wickets. However, Tom Hartley and Joe Root remained wicketless. James Anderson, making a comeback, clinched a wicket and showcased brilliance in his 184th Test, now merely 9 wickets away from a historic milestone as the first pacer to achieve 700 wickets.
