Ajinkya Rahane gave away another good start after he was dismissed for 35 in the first innings of the first Test in Kanpur. Heading into the Test match, Rahane spoke about not worrying about his form way too much. Cheteshwar Pujara, who himself was out for a low score (26) backed his captain to come good in teh first Test which wasn’t to be.

India won the toss and opted to bat. They lost Mayank Agarwal (13) early. Shubman Gill (52) then added a 61-run stand with Pujara as India dominated the first session. However, the Kiwis came back in the second session courtesy of Kyle Jamieson. He dismissed Gill and Rahane in quick succession as India lost three wickets in the session for 72 runs.

The Twitterverse, meanwhile, slammed Rahane for playing another innings of class but no substance. With Virat Kohli missing, Rahane along with Pujara were expected to do the bulk of the scoring which did not happen.

Here Is How Twitter Reacted To Ajinkya Rahane’s 35

“I have no concerns about my form. My job is to think about how can I contribute to the team and contribution doesn’t mean you need to make 100 in every game. 30-40 runs or 50-60 runs in a crucial moment is a very important contribution. I always think about the team and never about myself that, ‘What lies ahead for me?’ or ‘What will happen in the future?’ I think I am very fortunate and grateful, it’s an honor for me to lead the country. So not too much bothered about what will happen. What’s there in the future will happen. My focus is to give my best in a particular moment and that’s what I am going to try” said Rahane in reply to Gautam Gambhir’s criticism of his form.
