Ajinkya Rahane gave away another good start after he was dismissed for 35 in the first innings of the first Test in Kanpur. Heading into the Test match, Rahane spoke about not worrying about his form way too much. Cheteshwar Pujara, who himself was out for a low score (26) backed his captain to come good in teh first Test which wasn’t to be.
India won the toss and opted to bat. They lost Mayank Agarwal (13) early. Shubman Gill (52) then added a 61-run stand with Pujara as India dominated the first session. However, the Kiwis came back in the second session courtesy of Kyle Jamieson. He dismissed Gill and Rahane in quick succession as India lost three wickets in the session for 72 runs.
The Twitterverse, meanwhile, slammed Rahane for playing another innings of class but no substance. With Virat Kohli missing, Rahane along with Pujara were expected to do the bulk of the scoring which did not happen.
Here Is How Twitter Reacted To Ajinkya Rahane’s 35
Yaar even after two poor tours of England, and two average series in Australia, the commentators repeat the same old shit cliche of Rahane being at home away from home.

Ajinkya Rahane in the last 2 years in Tests has scored just 2 50s and a century.#INDvNZ

A sweet innings with some sublime boundaries but out for an unfulfilled 30-odd in the end. The legacy of Ajinkya Rahane continues. #INDvNZ

Death, Taxes and Rahane getting out to nothing shots
— Saahil Sharma (@faahil) November 25, 2021
Rahane makes getting out look so easy. Like you can be in 90% control, calm and composed throughout the innings and yet manage to get out so swiftly on a harmless ball.

Rahane should write a book- 'Different ways of throwing your wicket away after getting to a start'
What a waste of time this guy!

Ajinkya Rahane deserves the axe if Iyer performs? No, he deserves the axe even if no one else performs. Can't travel to South Africa with these numbers. #INDvNZ

Kohli and Rahane's numbers in the last 5 years. It's clear one is going through a lean patch while the other has been mediocre for a while pic.twitter.com/qtCT1CPXDq

Rahane has done it again! Just when India needed 35 runs, he has scored exactly that. #INDvNZ

“I have no concerns about my form. My job is to think about how can I contribute to the team and contribution doesn’t mean you need to make 100 in every game. 30-40 runs or 50-60 runs in a crucial moment is a very important contribution. I always think about the team and never about myself that, ‘What lies ahead for me?’ or ‘What will happen in the future?’ I think I am very fortunate and grateful, it’s an honor for me to lead the country. So not too much bothered about what will happen. What’s there in the future will happen. My focus is to give my best in a particular moment and that’s what I am going to try” said Rahane in reply to Gautam Gambhir’s criticism of his form.
