Ravichandran Ashwin went past Harbhajan Singh’s tally of 417 Test wickets in the first Test in Kanpur. He will definitely play in the next Test in Mumbai with three key milestones awaiting for the veteran off-spinner. Ashwin picked six wickets in the Kanpur Test which took his tally to 44 wickets in 14 innings in 2021.

50 Test Wickets in Four Different Calendar Years

Meanwhile, thrice previously in his career, Ravichandran Ashwin went past 50 wickets in a calendar year. Having earlier picked 62 wickets in 2015, 72 wickets in 2016 and 56 wickets in 2016. Presently, he stands tied with Harbhajan Singh and Anil Kumble with three each. If Ashwin picks six more wickets he will get to 50 wickets for the fourth time in his career in a calendar year, surpassing both Kumble and Harbajan.

8 Shy of 300 Test Wickets At Home

Ashwin is eight wickets shy of becoming the second Indian bowler to take 300 wickets at home. Only Anil Kumble is ahead of him with 350 Test wickets at home. Ashwin, coupled with Kumble and Harbhajan are the top three wicket-takers for India along with Kapil Dev (434).

Most Wickets At A Single Venue

Ashwin is also one short of having most wickets at a single venue in Tests. He now has 30 wickets each at the MA Chidambaram Stadium and Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. In four Tests at the venue, Ashwin has picked three five-fors and he has a ten-wicket haul.

Most Wickets In India-New Zealand Tests

The Indian off-spinner is also eight wickets away from becoming the bowler with most wickets in India-NZ Test matches. Richard Hadlee tops the list with most wickets (65). Ashwin is following him closely in the second position with 57 wickets.
