IND vs NZ 2021, 2nd Test: Ravichandran Ashwin Gets To Special Milestone On Day 3 In Mumbai

Ace Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been bowling in a league of his own in the Test series against New Zealand so far. After picking four wickets in the first innings of the Test match, now Ashwin has taken the first three wickets to fall in the second innings.

Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed Tom Latham for the second time in this Test match and the ninth time in his Test career. He then dismissed Will Young and Ross Taylor in quick succession. Taylor was Ashwin’s 50th wicket in this calendar year so far.

Ashwin has now become the Indian bowler with four 50-plus Test wickets in a calendar year (2015, 2016, 2017 and 2021). In the process, he overtook, Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Sing who took 50-plus wickets thrice each in their Test careers.

Ashwin has now taken his wickets tally to 426 and is eight wickets short of overtaking Kapil Dev’s tally of 434 Test wickets.

Earlier in the day, India declared their second innings on 276/7 with contributions from Mayank Agarwal (62), Shubman Gill (47), Cheteshwar Pujara (47) and Axar Patel (41*). Ajaz Patel who took all 10 wickets in the first innings ended with match figures of 14/225.

New Zealand have lost half their side chasing an impossible target of 540 to win the second Test. India are inching closer to a victory in Mumbai and sealing the series in the process.
