IND vs NZ: Records Broken By Shubman Gill And Rohit Sharma During Third ODI

Team India openers Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma pulled off a great partnership during the third ODI against New Zealand on Tuesday, January 24 at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore. They slammed centuries as India put on 386 runs on the board in the first innings. The duo’s knock lit up the stadium, providing a great spectacle for the fans.

Shubman Gill slammed 112 runs off 78 deliveries at a strike rate of 143.59, with thirteen boundaries and five sixes. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma smashed nine boundaries and six sixes, to score 101 runs at a strike rate of 118.82. The duo added 212 runs for the opening stand before Rohit Sharma was dismissed. During their partnership, they broke several individual records and partnership records.

With his second three-figure mark of the series, Shubman Gill ended with 360 runs in three games. He became the first Indian batter to score 300-plus runs in a three-match bilateral series. The 23-year-old also is the only second batter in the game’s history to have scored more than 350 runs in a 3-match ODI series. He overtook Imrul Kayes (349 runs), Quinton de Kock (342 runs) and Martin Guptill (330) runs.

Rohit Sharma ends century drought

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma, with his century in the third ODI against New Zealand ended a long three-figure mark drought. This was his first century in ODIs after 1100 days. His last ODI ton came against Australia in January 2020 in Bengaluru, while his last international century was against England in 2022. With this century, he also equaled former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting in the list of Most ODI centuries.

Rohit Sharma has 30 centuries, in 241 matches for Team India. Sachin Tendulkar is at the top of the list with 49 hundred, followed by Virat Kohli with 46 centuries. The Indian skipper slammed five sixes in the first 15 overs of the match and became the first Indian to do so. His 212 runs partnership with Shubman Gill is the third-highest by Indian players in ODI cricket.
