India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has suggested that star pacer Jasprit Bumrah is unlikely to be rested for the final Group A clash against the Netherlands national cricket team, even though India have already qualified for the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Bumrah played a decisive role in India’s commanding 61-run victory over the Pakistan national cricket team. His crucial dismissals of opener Saim Ayub and captain Salman Ali Agha broke the backbone of Pakistan’s chase and shifted the contest firmly in India’s favour.
Although the BCCI’s sports science team has carefully monitored Bumrah’s workload throughout the tournament, Kotak made it clear that a final decision would be taken later. “Don’t think Bumrah will rest. We will decide later,” Kotak said during the pre-match press conference on Thursday. His statement indicates that team management is balancing caution with the desire to maintain momentum heading into the knockout phase.
Backing Abhishek Sharma After Health Setback
Kotak also addressed questions regarding opener Abhishek Sharma, who recently recovered from a stomach illness that required hospitalisation and forced him to miss the match against Namibia. Although Abhishek returned for the high-pressure encounter against Pakistan, he was dismissed for a duck in the opening over. Despite this setback, Kotak expressed confidence in the youngster’s mental strength and preparation.
“He wasn’t well. Last game he got out in first over. We don’t want to overanalyze. He has his plans sorted,” Kotak said when asked whether teams had figured out Abhishek’s aggressive approach. The coach emphasized that short-term failures are part of the game and that the team continues to back the talented opener to deliver strong performances in upcoming matches.
Confidence In Ishan Kishan And Focus On Netherlands
Kotak also praised wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan for his self-belief and composure. Kishan’s half-century against Pakistan was a key factor in India’s dominant victory. “He has always been a very confident player since his younger days. That mindset helps in T20 cricket,” Kotak remarked, highlighting the importance of confidence in the shortest format.
Looking ahead, Kotak warned against complacency against the Netherlands. “From start of this World Cup, we have seen any team can beat any team. That is why every game is important.” His comments underline India’s intent to maintain intensity and discipline despite already securing qualification.
