The India Cricket Team registered 90 run win in the 3rd and final One-day international match played at Holkar Stadium, Indore on 24 January 2023. With this win, Men in Blue became the number 1 ranked ODI team displacing England.
New Zealand captain Tom Latham won the toss and decided to field first. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill looked cautious initially before putting enough pressure on the Kiwi bowlers. Gill showed his class with lovely timing while Rohit Sharma also created pressure with big hitting. At the end of the first, Rohit and Gill raced away to 82 for 0.
After the field restrictions, Indian openers continued their aggressive style of batting. Gill completed a half-century off 33 balls while Rohit Sharma reached fifty off just 41 balls to lay a strong foundation for a mammoth total. Both batters looked in sensational touch keeping the scoreboard ticking with boundaries easily. Rohit finally broke got his century off 83 balls and was dismissed for 101. Rohit and Gill put on 212 runs for the opening wicket.
Shubman Gill also reached his 2nd century this series off 72 balls. He was dismissed trying to hit a big shot with a simple catch to Conway. Virat Kohli came to the crease and looked decent with aggressive shots. Kishan was dismissed in a mix-up with Kohli. Kohli and Kishan added 38 runs for the 3rd wicket. Kohli, Surya Kumar Yadav, and Washington Sundar could not contribute much.
Hardik Pandya looked in decent touch taking singles and hitting occasional boundaries. Shardul Thakur came to the crease with positive intent smashing big shots. Thakur and Pandya added 54 runs for the 7th wicket. Hardik Pandya provided some impetus completing his half-century off 34 deliveries. India posted a mammoth total of 385 for 9 in 50 overs.
Hardik Pandya provided an early wicket getting rid of Finn Allen taking the inside edge onto the stumps. Henry Nicholls and Devon Conway looked steady putting pressure with aggressive shots. At the end of the first 10 overs, New Zealand made 73 for 1.
Kuldeep Yadav provided the much-needed breakthrough in getting rid of Nicholls. Nicholls and Conway added 106 runs for 2nd wicket. Conway looked in solid touch reaching a half-century off 41 balls. Daryl Mitchell and Conway showed intent in keeping the pressure on Indian bowlers. Conway made the batting look easy with boundaries and sixes at regular intervals.
Shardul Thakur dismissed Mitchell with a review for caught behind. Mitchell and Conway added 78 runs for the 3rd wicket. Thakur broke the backbone of the New Zealand team with the wickets of Tom Latham and Glenn Phillips.
Devon Conway reached a century off 71 balls and kept the momentum going for New Zealand. Umran Malik dismissed the centurion with a stunning catch by Rohit Sharma. Despite some efforts by Bracewell and Mitchell Santer, India bowled out New Zealand for 295. Kuldeep Yadav and Shardul Thakur grabbed 3 wickets each while Chahal grabbed 2 wickets, and Umran Malik and Hardik Pandya took 1 wicket each.
Yuzvendra Chahal and Umran Malik made it into the playing XI replacing Siraj and Shami. India won a high-scoring thriller in the opening match by 12 runs at Hyderabad, registered 8 wicket win in the 2nd ODI at Raipur, and then thrashed the Kiwis by 90 runs at Indore.
