Indian captain Rohit Sharma gave some personal observations on the hitters he likes to watch right now. In an interview with Dubai Eye 103.8 Radio Station, Rohit—who is presently playing for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL)—expressed his love for two players in particular: Australian opener Steve Smith and England opener Zak Crawley.
This decade has seen Virat Kohli, Joe Root, Steve Smith, and Kane Williamson emerge as the “Fab Four” of cricket batting. Since they advanced through the youth ranks at approximately the same time, the discussion about which of the four batsmen is the “best” of this generation has centred around them, and each of the four has gone on to consistently live up to the hype.
But which one is the “best” in reality, particularly when it comes to the game’s final format—tests? The answer is obvious right now: Smith of Australia is first among equals.
“I watched Zak Crawley this season very closely & enjoyed watching him bat. I enjoyed Steve Smith’s batting too, although he is different from the rest. I mean, he’s got his way of dealing with things in the middle, but he’s successful,” said Rohit Sharma in an interaction on the Dubai Eye 103.8 YouTube Channel.
Rohit Sharma makes an honest confession about facing Dale Steyn:
The bowler that Indian captain Rohit Sharma struggled against during his lengthy and illustrious career was recently disclosed. In an interview with Dubai Eye 103.8, a radio station in Dubai, Rohit disclosed that the most difficult bowler he has ever faced was former South African pace sensation Dale Steyn.
“I went and watched his videos like 100 times before I went in to bat. That was Dale Steyn. He is an absolute legend of the game. And what he has achieved in his career is just superb to watch. And I have faced him many times,” Rohit Sharma said in an interaction on the Dubai Eye 103.8 YouTube channel.
He is quick. He used to swing the ball at that pace, which is not easy. It is quite tough. And he was a fierce competitor. He just went out there wanting to do everything—to win every game and every session, so it was nice to come up against him,” Rohit Sharma added.
Rohit will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the best batsmen of his generation with his over 10,000 runs in One-Day internationals, nearly 4,000 in Twenty20 Internationals, over 4,000 in Tests, and a plethora of other records.
