India Coach Gives Big Update On Shami Before 5th T20I vs ENG

India’s bowling coach, Morne Morkel, shared a significant update on pacer Mohammed Shami ahead of the fifth and final T20I against England. Speaking at a post-match press conference after the fourth T20I, Morkel hinted at Shami’s possible inclusion in the series finale.

Morkel expressed the team’s excitement about Shami’s return, noting that the pacer has been performing well in warm-ups. He also mentioned that he is pleased with Shami’s progress and suggested that the fast bowler is “likely” to play in Mumbai.

“Shami’s been bowling really well, catching to him at warm-ups… so very happy he’s coming along. He’s probably going to get an opportunity in the next game, we’ll see how things go, but excited to have him back in the group,” Morkel said (via Hindustan Times).

India’s bowling coach highlighted the positive impact of Mohammed Shami’s presence on the team’s young bowlers.

“Just for him to share his experience and his knowledge at training is a massive boost for this young bowling unit and for Indian cricket, so yeah, great to have Shami back in the mix,” he added.

Shami Has Featured in Just One of Four T20Is in Series So Far

Mohammed Shami made his return to international cricket in the third T20I against England. The pacer bowled three overs, conceding 25 runs at an economy rate of 8.3, but failed to take a wicket.

Shami was absent from the first two matches of the series and, after playing the third T20I, was left out of the fourth as Arshdeep Singh returned to the playing XI. The team has opted for Arshdeep in three of the four matches so far.

Shami’s inclusion in the Champions Trophy squad raised expectations for more game time, but the management is handling him carefully. He is also part of India’s ODI squad for the series against England after the T20Is.
