Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin issued a strong warning to Suryakumar Yadav and his team following their T20 World Cup 2026 match against Namibia, in which India secured a 93-run victory on Thursday, February 12.
Ashwin noted that India’s batters would need to be cautious against Pakistan, who are expected to field four spinners. He highlighted that handling Pakistan’s spin attack could pose a significant challenge.
“I want to appreciate Namibia the way they restricted India to 210. It was a massive achievement. They dont get a lot of exposure throughout the year. We cant fault Namibia. But this was yet another match practice for India.”
“But the skill that Gerhard Erasmus showed, it is something India will be wary of, because against Pakistan, we will have to play four spinners. So my biggest concern is how they will play some of these Pakistan spinners. There are some doubts in my mind about this now,” he said on ‘Ash ki Baat‘.
Namibia skipper Gerhard Erasmus took 4/20, while India faced a tricky phase. Pakistan boast four main spinners—Abrar Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, Usman Tariq, Shadab Khan—and Saim Ayub as a fifth option.
Ravichandran Ashwin Issues Advice To India’s Batters Ahead Of Pakistan
The much-anticipated clash between India and Pakistan is scheduled at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, February 15. Facing a spin-dominant Pakistan team in Colombo, where the pitch offers significant turn, will be a tough task for Suryakumar Yadav and his squad.
Ahead of the encounter, Ravichandran Ashwin pointed out that the Premadasa Stadium is not particularly suited for hitting sixes. As a result, the batters will need to focus on rotating the strike and taking singles and doubles, especially considering the ground’s large dimensions.
“India did struggle a bit against spin. It is some food or thought on how to handle spinners. Premadasa is a big stadium and they will have to take ones and twos, need not necessarily be a six-hitting ground,” he said.
