India Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal All Set To Break A Massive Record

Yashasvi Jaiswal, the young and explosive Indian opener, is on the brink of rewriting Test cricket history. As India prepares to face England in the second Test at Edgbaston on July 2, 2025, Jaiswal is just 97 runs short of becoming the fastest Indian to reach 2,000 runs in Test cricket.

He has so far scored 1,903 runs in just 20 matches and 38 innings. If he scores the remaining runs in the first innings of the upcoming match, he will surpass the 49-year-old record held by the legendary Sunil Gavaskar. Gavaskar had reached the 2,000-run mark in 40 innings, and if Jaiswal does it in fewer, it would be a moment of pride not just for him, but for Indian cricket as a whole.

Climbing Past Cricket Icons

Jaiswal’s potential to surpass legends like Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag adds more weight to his achievement. Both these icons took 40 innings to reach 2,000 Test runs, while other greats like Vijay Hazare and Gautam Gambhir got there in 43.

For a cricketer who made his debut only in 2023, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s rise has been nothing short of remarkable. His aggressive yet controlled style of batting has earned him praise from fans and experts alike, and now he stands on the doorstep of greatness.

Surpassing Gavaskar’s milestone will also mark Jaiswal’s arrival as one of the brightest stars in the Indian Test setup, with many already seeing him as a future mainstay of the team.

A Star on the Rise

Since his debut, Jaiswal has made headlines with powerful performances. He scored a century in his very first Test and later recorded back-to-back double centuries against England in 2024. This rare feat put him in the elite club of Indian cricketers like Sunil Gavaskar and Vinod Kambli.

He also hit 12 sixes in a single Test innings, matching a world record, and set a new record with 20 sixes in an entire Test series. At just 22, he became only the second Indian after Gavaskar to score over 700 runs in a series before turning 23.

These achievements point to a player who is not only talented but is also growing rapidly in confidence and consistency. As the Edgbaston Test draws near, all eyes will be on Yashasvi Jaiswal. With just one solid knock, he has the opportunity to etch his name among the legends of Indian cricket.
