Young India pacer Gurnoor Brar has been issued an official warning for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the first ODI against England in Birmingham on July 14. The 26-year-old was found guilty of throwing the ball at or near a player in an inappropriate or dangerous manner, breaching the ICC Code of Conduct.
The incident occurred in the eighth over of England’s innings after the hosts opted to bat first. While fielding, Brar collected the ball and threw it dangerously towards the striker. In addition to the warning, he received one demerit point, marking the first demerit point of his international career and within the past two years.
Brar admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by Match Referee Richie Richardson, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.
Gurnoor Brar Stars In India’s Dominant Win Over England
Gurnoor Brar emerged as one of India’s standout performers in their emphatic six-wicket victory over England in the opening ODI. Featuring in just his fourth international appearance, all in the ODI format, the right-arm seamer sparked England’s collapse by dismissing openers Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell.
England had raced to a 61-run opening stand before Brar struck twice in the 13th over, reducing the hosts to 63/2 within the space of three deliveries. Although he conceded runs at a higher rate later in his spell, the pacer returned impressive figures of 2/61 from nine overs.
Brar’s early breakthroughs played a crucial role in helping India bowl England out for 258, before the visitors chased down the target in the 46th over. The 26-year-old has enjoyed a promising start to his international career, claiming nine wickets in four ODIs at an average of under 22.
India have also won all four matches he has featured in, including three against Afghanistan and the latest triumph over England. Brar is expected to retain his place in India’s playing XI for the second ODI against England in Cardiff on July 16, where the visitors will aim to clinch the three-match series.
