The Indian men’s cricket team delivered a dominant performance to defeat Afghanistan by nine wickets in the third and final One Day International (ODI) at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday. With this commanding victory, India successfully completed a 3-0 clean sweep in the bilateral series.

After winning the toss, Afghanistan elected to bat first but faced immediate distress against a disciplined Indian bowling attack. Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna delivered an exceptional spell, dismantling the visitor’s top order to claim his maiden five-wicket haul in ODI cricket, finishing with remarkable figures of 5/23 from 8.2 overs.

Afghanistan found themselves in a precarious position at 36 for 4 within the opening ten overs. Despite the collapse, Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi played a resilient innings, anchoring the side with his maiden ODI century. Shahidi scored a patient 102 runs off 131 deliveries, including 13 boundaries and a six.

He formed a vital partnership with all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai, who contributed a quick-fire 50 off 56 balls. However, lack of support from the lower order saw Afghanistan bundled out for 218 runs in 44.2 overs. In reply, India made a mockery of the 219-run target, racing to victory in just 28.4 overs.
