England and India have decided to play a Test in England when they will travel there in the summer of 2022. The match will replace the fifth Test at Old Trafford which was abandoned earlier this month due to the COVID scare.
However, it has not been confirmed yet whether the match will be a standalone game or end the series that started in August, but it will help to gain the majority of financial losses incurred by the ECB due to the abandonment in Manchester. It may also help to sort further disagreements between the ECB and the BCCI about the Test as well.
Update: The BCCI and ECB held several rounds of discussion to find a way to play the match, however, the outbreak of Covid-19 in the Indian team contingent forced the decision of calling off the Old Trafford Test.

Meanwhile, earlier discussions said the possibility of two T20Is that will replace the Test as well. But it is understood that the slot in the schedule has been agreed for the Test and it is expected to complete the series which India currently lead 2-1 as well.
However, the ECB has also now received a proposal from Cricket Australia (CA) about their plans for England during the Ashes series. While the details are not clear yet, it is understood that the plans – which include details of quarantine arrangements and the requirements for bubbles throughout the tour – will be better than what it was earlier. And, due to that, there might be fewer withdrawals from the England squad are on the cards too.
