The speculations on MS Dhoni’s return to international cricket is the million-dollar question now. With ICC T20 World Cup scheduled in India next year, the question gets more important. Former India opener Aakash Chopra feels Dhoni’s presence is not so important for India and the Men in Blues can win the T20 World Cup without Dhoni.

Meanwhile, the legendary cricketer has been out of action since India’s semifinal game in the World Cup. He chose to take a sabbatical and since then, he has not appeared for the Men in Blues. Subsequently, BCCI also left Dhoni out of their central contracts for the first time in over a decade.

While certain sections still believe MS Dhoni is pivotal to this current Indian team, but there is another school of thought who feels the young guns are good to deliver. Aakash Chopra belongs to the second school as he feels India can handle without Dhoni.

“I think we can manage without him [Dhoni], let’s be honest. Because we are talking about 2021,” Chopra said while speaking on his YouTube channel.

“It is in India and you definitely want Dhoni to be there in the team and want him to play. But first thing, does Dhoni want to play? I have been saying this like a broken record that I feel he doesn’t want to play,” he added.

Furthermore, Aakash Chopra stated that Virat Kohli-led India should stop their over-reliance on MS Dhoni. He also has a strong belief India can win the T20 World Cup with the former India skipper.

“But even if he is available, we are talking about 2021. It is still more than a year to go when that World Cup will happen in India. So, we have to get used to managing without him and I think we will get used to it by then. So I feel his presence is not so important that if he is not there you will not win the World Cup,” Chopra added.

Meanwhile, MS Dhoni has landed in Chennai to attend the Chennai Super Kings training camp. He along with the entire Chennai team will fly to the UAE next week to play IPL 2020.
