Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain ended her Tokyo Olympics campaign by bagging a bronze medal. She lost to Busenaz Surmeneli of Turkey via unanimous decision on Wednesday. She lost the first round 0:5 and was warned with a point deducted in the second round. In the final round, she was dominated by the Turkish boxer as she had to finally settled for a bronze.
It was a difficult road to the semis for the Indian boxer. Lovlina Borgohain won her first bout against Germany’s Nadine Apetz where she won via a split decision. She the met Chinese Taipei’s Nien-Chin Chen in the quarter-final and went onto beat her 4:1. The Indian contingent have won two medals in the Olympics so far and both were won by female athletes.
With a bronze medal, Lovlina became only the third Indian boxer after Vijender Singh and Mary Kom to win an Olympic medal. Meanwhile, the Indian cricketing fraternity has reacted to Lovlina’s recent feat at the Olympics. She was congratulated on bagging the bronze receiving a lot of accolades.
