Virat Kohli Provides An Update On Mohammed Shami’s Injury

Saturday morning wasn’t a usual one for the Indian fans as they witnessed an absolute nightmare in broad daylight as India stumbled to defeat in the early hours of the 1st test between India and Australia. In between all this India might just be in more trouble ahead of the 2nd Test as pacer Mohammed Shami suffered a blow on his bowling arm while batting as he was a victim of Pat Cummins’ dreadful short delivery.

It all started when India ended the day with a lead of 62 runs with Mayank Agarwal and Jasprit Bumrah at the crease. Not many would’ve expected that India were to face a fierce spell of fast bowling in the early hours of Day three as Australia shattered the Indian batting line up from 9/1 to 36/9 in the span of just 12 overs which meant Australia had to merely chase a target of 90 runs.

Though India didn’t lose all their 10 wickets, India’s Mohammed Shami had to retire hurt as he failed to recuperate from the blow he suffered off the bowling of Pat Cummins. The Indian team physio and team doctor wrapped Shami’s arm with a bandage but that didn’t provide much aid to the fast bowler as result a decision was made to retire Shami.

Mohammed Shami was in a lot of pain, couldn’t even lift his arm: Virat Kohli

During Australia’s innings, it was Shubman Gill who took the field instead of Mohammed Shami as Indian skipper later confirmed that Mohammed Shami has been taken for scans as he wasn’t even able to lift his arm.

“Confident the boys going forward will reflect on this and come up with a better result on Boxing Day. No news on Shami, he’s going for a scan now. Was in a lot of pain, couldn’t even lift his arm. We’ll probably know in the evening what happens,” Virat Kohli said.

If Mohammed Shami is ruled out of the 2nd Test, India will be in all sorts of trouble as they’ll already be without the services of Virat Kohli in addition to Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma not being a part of the squad. Though Rohit Sharma has landed in Australia, he’ll only be available for the final two tests as he’s currently undergoing 14-day quarantine as per Australian government regulations.
