The Indian Women’s Team registered their first-ever Test victory over Australian Women on the 4th day of a one-off Test match played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on 24th December 2024.
Pooja Vastrkar began the 4th day on a perfect note as she dismissed Ash Gardner. The umpire gave not out but on review, it was overturned to out. Annabel Sutherland survived a few anxious moments with disciplined Indian bowling. Jess Jonassen and Sutherland looked cautious before Sneha Rana got rid of Annabel Sutherland and Alana King off successive deliveries. Sutherland was given not out but on review, it was overturned to hit the gloves out. Rana then got rid of King hitting the stumps.
Rajeshwari Gayakwad produced a beauty to dismiss Kim Garth. She then stunned Jess Jonassen with a lovely delivery to bowl out Australia for 261. The Indian women’s team were set a target of 75 runs in the fourth innings.
Chasing 75 runs to win, Shafali Varma was dismissed with a lovely delivery by Kim Garth. Richa Ghosh was promoted at number 3. She struggled as Beth Mooney dropped a catch at slips. Smriti Mandhana and Ghosh looked impressive hitting some lovely shots to put pressure back on Aus bowling. Indian team ended the first session at 29 for 1.
After the lunch break, Ghosh and Mandhana kept calm with some lovely shots before Richa Ghosh was dismissed trying to hit a big shot. Ghosh and Mandhana added 51 runs for the 2nd wicket. Jemimah Rodrigues and Mandhana looked impressive against Australian bowling.
Mandhana hit the winning runs with a lovely boundary as the Indian women’s team registered their first-ever Test victory by 8 wickets.
Great Performance by the Indian Team
The Indian team had a great performance against Australian women. It was an impressive bowling performance by the Indian team as they bowled them out for 219. At the end of the first day, the Indian women’s team ended at 91 for 1.
The second day saw the Indian team struggle as they lost wickets quickly in the 2nd session before Deepti Sharma and Pooja Vastrkar put on a valuable partnership for the 8th wicket. Indian team registered 406 runs in the first innings with a lead of 187 runs lead.
Indian women’s team bowled with great control on the 3rd day as Sneha Rana took 2 wickets of Ellyse Perry and Litchfield. Harmanpreet Kaur got wickets of McGarth and Healy in quick succession to put the hosts in front.
