Indian Women's Team won first ever T20 Under 19 World Cup 2023

The Indian women Cricket Team created history as they won the first ever Under 19 World Cup defeating England in a one-sided final played at Senews Park, Potchefstroom on 29 January 2023.

Indian captain Shafali Verma won the toss and decided to field first. Titas Sadhu got an early breakthrough in the first over getting rid of Liberty Heap with a simple return catch. After a few attacking strokes, Archana Devi dismissed Niamh Holland trying to sweep but was cleaned up. Devi dismissed England captain Grace Scrivens as Trisha took a stunning diving catch to leave England in trouble.

R MacDonald Gay and Seren Smale struggled against disciplined bowling keeping it tight. At the end of the first six overs, England’s women made 22 for 3. Sadhu dismissed Smale to leave England in massive trouble. Gay looked in decent touch as the rest of England’s batters struggled against top-quality bowling by Indian bowlers. The leg spinner Parshavi Chopra dismissed Chris Pavely before the drinks break.

Parshavi Chopra struck again getting rid of MacDonald Gay as Archana Devi took a stunning one-handed catch to leave England women in deep trouble. Soumya Tiwari produced a direct hit to get rid of Joise Graves making matters worst. Richa Ghosh showed great presence of mind with a superb piece of stumping to dismiss Hannah Baker.

Mannat Kashyap dismissed Alexa Stonehouse with a simple catch to Sonam Yadav. Sonam Yadav ended the innings by getting rid of Sophia Semale bowling out England for a paltry total of 68 in 17.1 overs.

Chasing down 69 runs to win, Shafali Verma began the innings on an aggressive note before providing a simple catch to Stonehouse. England captain Scrivens dismissed inform Shweta Seharwat to put India under some pressure. Soumya Tiwari and Gongadi Trisha steadied the innings taking singles and hitting occasional boundaries. At the end of the first six overs, Indian women made 30 for 2.

Gongadi Trisha was dismissed by Stonehouse before the finishing line. Trisha and Tiwari added 46 runs for the 3rd wicket. Tiwari hit the winning runs as the Indian women won the match by 7 wickets with 36 balls to spare.

For her figures of 2 for 6 in 4 overs, Titas Sadhu was named the player of the match award. It was a dominating performance by the Indian Under 19 team as they lost the only game in the Super Six stage losing to Australia.
