Indian Youngsters Who Were Fined For Their IPL Celebrations

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is known for its thrilling matches and exciting celebrations. Players often express their joy in unique ways after taking wickets or scoring runs. While most of these celebrations add to the entertainment of the game, sometimes they cross the line.

The IPL governing body keeps a close watch and penalizes players if their actions are deemed inappropriate. In recent seasons, a few young Indian cricketers have faced fines for their celebratory gestures. Here, we look at three such instances where young Indian players were fined for their on-field celebrations.

Harshit Rana’s Flying Kiss Gesture

During IPL 2024, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pacer Harshit Rana found himself in trouble for his celebration. In a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Harshit dismissed Mayank Agarwal and celebrated by blowing a flying kiss. While it might have seemed harmless, the authorities deemed it inappropriate.

It led to a 60% fine on his match fees. Although Harshit did not repeat this celebration, his team acknowledged it in a light-hearted manner when KKR won the IPL 2024 title. The entire squad celebrated their victory by mimicking the flying kiss gesture, making it a memorable moment for fans.

Digvesh Singh Rathi’s Notebook Celebration

Leg-spinner Digvesh Singh Rathi is another youngster who was recently fined for his celebration in IPL 2025. During a match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Digvesh dismissed his state teammate, Priyansh Arya.

In response, he performed a ‘notebook celebration,’ a gesture where a player pretends to jot something down, possibly marking the wicket. While this act was not offensive, the IPL officials still fined him, considering it an unsporting gesture. This incident highlights how even seemingly playful celebrations can attract penalties in professional cricket.

Rasikh Salam Dar’s Aggressive Celebration

Pacer Rasikh Salam Dar from Jammu & Kashmir was also fined for his on-field celebration in IPL 2024. Playing for Delhi Capitals against Gujarat Titans, Rasikh took the wicket of R Sai Kishore and reacted with an aggressive celebration.

Although expressing emotions is natural in a high-pressure game like cricket, his actions did not sit well with the IPL officials, resulting in a fine. It remains to be seen whether Rasikh will continue with similar celebrations in IPL 2025 or adopt a more restrained approach.

While celebrations are an integral part of cricket, players must be cautious to ensure their actions do not cross the boundaries of sportsmanship. The IPL authorities remain vigilant in maintaining the decorum of the game, ensuring that expressions of joy do not turn into acts of disrespect.
