India’s Records With Pink Ball Tests

The Indian cricket team has limited experience in Day-Night Tests, having played only four Pink Ball matches over the past five years. Out of these, three were hosted at home, where India displayed dominance against Bangladesh, England, and Sri Lanka. However, their sole Pink Ball game away from home ended in defeat.

This loss occurred against Australia at the Adelaide Oval in 2020, the same venue where they are set to face Australia again on December 6th. Despite their strong overall record, with a win percentage of 75% in Pink Ball Tests, their inability to secure an away victory remains a significant challenge.

The Infamous Adelaide Defeat

India’s last Pink Ball encounter in Adelaide is remembered as one of their most challenging performances in Test cricket. During the 2020 match, India suffered a staggering batting collapse, managing only 36 runs in their second innings—their lowest Test score to date. The hosts capitalized on this opportunity, securing an eight-wicket victory.

As India prepares to revisit Adelaide for the next match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, this defeat serves as a cautionary tale. With a 1-0 lead after their emphatic 295-run win in Perth, India enters the contest with momentum but will need to overcome the psychological barrier of their previous failure at this venue.

Aiming to Rewrite History

India’s recent success in Perth showcased their ability to dominate in challenging conditions, putting them in a strong position ahead of the Pink Ball Test. With a blend of exceptional batting, disciplined bowling, and strategic leadership, the team will aim to turn the tide in Adelaide.

Securing their first away win in a Day-Night Test would not only enhance their reputation but also strengthen their hold on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The stakes are high, and while India’s Pink Ball record is commendable overall, proving their mettle away from home remains a hurdle they are determined to overcome.
