Delhi Daredevils gave chance to Prithvi Shaw and performed reasonably well in his maiden IPL season. Also the young all-rounder Abishek Sharma was given a chance against Royal Challengers Bangalore and also impressed with his brilliant batting on his debut.

Apart from a stellar performance in the finals, he had played 5 more matches scoring 86,9*, 9 and 47, did not get to bat against Zimbabwe and remained not out against PNG. While his selection to IPL was justified one wonders why this franchise despite some known player’s poor performance, did not try this young talent.

The tall young fast bowler Navdeep Saini was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise for INR 3 Crore for his pace bowling talent. In the 2017/18 Ranji Trophy season, he had picked 34 wickets from 8 matches and had helped Delhi to reach finals of this year’s tournament.

7 Indian cricketers who are remembered for just one performance

His best figures in 2017/18 edition of Ranji Trophy were 7/90. With the Royal Challengers Bangalore, not finding good pace combination to win in the first 10 matches one wonders why Kohli an experienced captain did not think of a home team pace bowler with all evidence in favour of him.  It is unlikely that RCB would give him a chance in the remaining 2 games because the present pacers in Umesh Yadav, Tim Southee and Mohammad Siraj have been doing well in the last 2 matches.

Despite his good performances, he has been warming bench throughout this IPL as Mumbai Indians had a good spinning option in Krunal Pandya, Mayank Markande and part time spinner in JP Duminy. The defending Champions Mumbai Indians are at 10 points and with 2 matches left, MI may not take any risk at this decisive stage of the league stages.

Delhi Daredevils despite lacklustre performances of some of their key players did not dare to give this experienced cricketer any chances so far.  As they are already out of contention, they might give him a chance in remaining two matches that would neither benefit the franchise nor the player.
