IPL 2018: Indian players to register best figures in an innings in IPL history

The Indian Premier League provides a platform for young uncapped Indian players to showcase their talent to the world on a big stage. In the 2018 edition, many new young uncapped players are taking part which has done very well with their bowling including Mayank Markande, Ankit Rajpoot and helped their franchises win matches.

In the history of IPL history, Indian players have made name for themselves with great bowling performances but could not sustain his performance in the entire season.

Playing for Kings XI Punjab, the uncapped Indian player Ankit Rajpoot became the first Indian uncapped player to register best figures in an innings of IPL history against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Hyderabad on 26th April.

Ankit Rajpoot was bought by Kings XI Punjab in 2018 IPL auction for RS 2.2 Crore. In the 2017 and 2016 edition, Rajpoot played for Kolkata Knight Riders and just played 9 matches taking 7 wickets.

In the 2018 edition of IPL, Rajpoot has played 3 matches so far and taken 7 wickets. In yesterday’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad, Ankit became the first Indian uncapped player to register the best figures in IPL history. Kings XI Punjab won the toss and elected to bowl first. He was superb with his line and length dismissing Kane Williamson, Shikhar Dhawan and Wriddhiman Saha in the first 6 overs.

In the death over also, Rajpoot dismissed Manish Pandey and Mohammad Nabi. He finished with figures of 5/14 in 4 overs at the economy of 3.5 runs per over to restrict the hosts to 132. Despite his efforts, Kings XI Punjab lost the match by 13 runs. He was named the man of the match for his great bowling performance. He became the first bowler in IPL 2018 to pick 5 wickets.

Ankit Rajpoot holds the record of second best bowling figures in a losing cause. Rajpoot made his first-class debut for Uttar Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy 2012/13 season, taking 31 wickets in 7 matches. He made his IPL debut for Chennai Super Kings in 2013.

The right arm off spinner Ajit Chandila made his IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals in 2012 against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur.

He played 12 IPL matches for Rajasthan Royals and took 11 wickets with an economy of 6.21 runs per over. His best figures came against Pune Warriors India taking 4/13 with a hat trick in that spell.

The match between Pune Warriors India and Rajasthan Royals was played on 13th May 2012. Rajasthan Royals posted 170 for 9 in 20 overs. He picked Sourav Ganguly, Jesse Ryder and Robin Uthappa to break the backbone of Pune Warriors India batting line up. Rajasthan Royals won the match by 45 runs.

After that Ajit Chandila was life banned from cricket due him involved in the spot-fixing scandal during 2013 edition.

3. Sreenath Aravind

The currently retired Sreenath Arvind made his IPL debut for Royal Challengers versus Deccan Chargers at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on 14th April 2011. He played 38 IPL matches and taken 45 wickets with an economy of 8.2 runs per over.

He only played 1 T20I match for team India against South Africa, also played for Karnataka in the domestic season for many years and retired from first-class cricket after the completion of 2017/18 Indian season.

Arvind has the credit of third Indian player with best figures in IPL history taking 4/14 against Kings XI Punjab on 6th May 2011 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. RCB were invited to bat and posted a massive total of 205 for 6. Arvind was brilliant with the ball taking wickets of Nayar, Shaun Marsh, Ryan McLaren and Ryan Harris to give RCB an 85 runs win.

In 2011, edition RCB reached the finals of IPL losing to Chennai Super Kings by 58 runs.

4. Rajat Bhatia

Rajat Bhatia known for medium pace bowling made his IPL debut for Delhi Daredevils. Apart from playing for Delhi Daredevils, he has represented Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals and Rising Pune Supergiants in the Indian Premier League.

Apart from playing in IPL, Bhatia also played domestic cricket for more than 15 years. He played 95 IPL matches and taken 71 wickets with an economy of 7.41 runs per over. Also was a decent lower order batsman with 342 runs with the best score of 26.

Bhatia best figures were 4/15 for Delhi Daredevils in the 2009 edition against Deccan Chargers at Durban on 13th May. Delhi Daredevils posted 173 for 7 in 20 overs. While chasing 174, Bhatia took wickets of Andrew Symonds, Dwayne Smith, Pragyan Ojha and Shoaib Ahmed to give DD 12 runs. The 2009 edition of IPL was played in South Africa.

Delhi Daredevils reached the semi-finals stage of 2009 IPL. They lost to Deccan Chargers in the semi-finals by 6 wickets.

5. Pawan Negi

He made his IPL debut for Delhi Daredevils on 21st April 2012. He then played for Chennai Super Kings franchise. Pawan Negi the left arm spin bowler was bought by Delhi Daredevils for Rs 8.5 Crores in the 2016 edition of IPL.

Then he was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore. He played 43 IPL matches and has taken 31 wickets with an economy of 7.74 runs per over. His best figures have been 4/18 for Delhi Daredevils against Rajasthan Royals at Jaipur on 1st May 2012.

Rajasthan Royals elected to bat first after the winning toss and scored 141 for 6. In his spell, Pawan Negi took wickets of Rahane, Watson, Brad Hodge and Ashok Menaria. He gave away 18 runs in his 4 overs at an economy of 4.50 runs per over.

Delhi Daredevils reached finished 3rd in 2012 IPL edition. In 2012 edition, Negi played 8 matches and scored just 36 runs, with the ball he took 7 wickets from 8 matches. In 2018 edition, Pawan is playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
