The IPL 2020 league stage is over and done with, with MI, DC, RCB and SRH being the four teams to make the playoffs. Mumbai Indians won the first qualifier against Delhi Capitals, while SRH beat RCB in the eliminator. SRH will now play DC in the second qualifier for a place in the finals.

Meanwhile, there were a few trades which turned out to be big mistakes in the competition. Here is a look at 5 IPL trades that went completely wrong in the IPL.

5 IPL trades that went completely wrong in the IPL:

1. Trent Boult (DC to MI)

Delhi Capitals released Trent Boult to Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2020. He took 23 wickets in 19 matches at an economy rate of 8.78 for Delhi in his two-year stint with them. Delhi had purchased him for INR 2.2 crores in the auction, while Mumbai offered him another crore to seal the tempting deal.

With Boult and Rabada Delhi had a fearsome new-ball pair which was broken open after Capitals released him. However, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise for MI for who he has picked up 22 wickets so far.

R Ashwin led Kings XI Punjab in two IPL seasons before KXIP traded him for Jagdeeshan Suchit ahead of IPL 2020. Though he was a failure as captain, his experience was of much need in the IPL. Ashwin picked up 25 wickets in 28 games while leading the franchise.

He was a great value addition to the team for DC. He picked up 13 wickets from as many matches and produced some key spells for his team. Delhi lost veteran spinner Amit Mishra due to injury and Ashwin has filled his boots to perfection. Even in the first qualifier which Delhi lost, Ashwin picked up three wickets for just 29 runs.

3. Shikhar Dhawan (SRH to DC)

Sunrisers Hyderabad traded Shikhar Dhawan to Delhi Capitals in need of Vijay Shankar, Abhishek Sharma, and Shahbaz Nadeem. Dhawan was a big reason for Sunrisers scoring heavy runs at the top and he also had built up a good partnership with skipper David Warner.

He played with the franchise since 2013, scoring over 500 runs almost every season till 2017. Dhawan is third on the Orange Cap list as of Match 54 with 525 runs at an impressive strike-rate of 147, in this IPL as well. He has scored 5050 runs in 174 innings at a strike-rate of 126.57 in his overall IPL career.

Rahul Tewatia was one of the surprise packages of the season in this IPL. He was traded by Delhi for Ajinkya Rahane. While they gave away Rahane, they roped in Tewatia and Mayank Markande. He scored 255 runs at a strike-rate of 139.44 and picked up 10 wickets at an economy rate of seven for the Royals.

He won the franchise at least two to three games on his all-round brilliance single-handedly. While the Royals had a disappointing season, Tewatia was their big positive result from this campaign. He will be expected to play an even bigger role when the next IPL happens in six months time.

5. Quinton de Kock (RCB to MI)

De Kock was bought by RCB ahead of IPL 2018 for 2.8 crores. He played eight innings for them, scoring 201 runs at a below-par strike rate of 124. He was then traded to Mumbai Indians by RCB ahead of IPL 2019. He has been the top-scorer for the side this season scoring 483 runs from 15 games and counting.

In a season where the RCB batting line-up has struggled throughout the franchise will be rueing leaving out De Kock. Batting at the top, he would also have kept for RCB putting a lot less pressure on the likes of AB De Villiers and Virat Kohli.
